What Backbird is
Backbird is an independent research directory of enterprise technology partnerships. It is designed to show which service partners and technology vendors have demonstrable relationships, and to make the public evidence behind those relationships inspectable.
The emphasis is on evidence rather than programme membership. Backbird does not treat a partner directory, certification, badge, tier or generic partner listing as proof of a substantive relationship.
How the research works
Each partner and vendor combination is researched as a relationship. Public evidence can include customer case studies, press releases, official announcements, solution pages and credible thought leadership. Evidence is recorded against the relationship so the underlying source can be inspected.
A relationship and its evidence are deliberately treated as separate things. A company can therefore have an identified relationship even when the available evidence is historical, on hold or otherwise not currently qualified.
Research scope
How this dashboard is built
The dashboard is a self contained client side web application built with standard HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The structured Backbird research data is supplied as JSON and rendered in the browser. There is no external JavaScript framework or runtime dependency required by the dashboard.
The interface is intentionally compact and editorial: a six column analytical structure, dense typography, restrained colour and direct access to the evidence behind a relationship. The dashboard presentation layer is kept separate from the research data so the interface can evolve without altering the underlying research records.
How to use it
Choose Service Partner or Technology Vendor, then select companies in sequence. Additional selections unlock comparison of partnership overlap and differentiation. Open PROFILES to inspect the research for a selected company, and open individual relationships to inspect their supporting evidence.
What the evidence means
Evidence status is not the same as relationship status. Qualified means the evidence currently meets the research standard. On Hold indicates an identified source or relationship that requires further validation or does not currently meet the qualification threshold. Historical identifies evidence that is retained for context but is outside the current evidence window.
Research principle
Backbird is intended to make enterprise partnership intelligence more useful by showing what can actually be demonstrated publicly. It is an ongoing research project by Randall Wood, with the dataset and dashboard versioned as the research develops.
